All By Myself

My mom left on Friday and I have to admit that I teared up as her car pulled away (darn hormones).  She told me she cried when my Grandma left her after the birth of my brother.  I think you feel just a little scared that you are responsible for this completely helpless baby.

I decided I needed to get out of the house because I had wasted most of the day.  My Mom made me go back to bed Friday morning and I slept until 11:30!  I decided to take Landon and both dogs on a walk to Brookside by myself.  I thought I had everything under control until a lady walked past me and said, "Wow, you've got your hands full!"  Next Chris called to let me know he was on his way home from work.  While on the phone the stroller veered off the sidewalk into a lawn and another lady passing by gave me one of those "tisk, tisk" looks.  We made it home in one piece and this week the dogs and I have gotten a lot better at walking with a stroller.

I've got this, right?  At least the dogs are only a combined 30 lbs.

Saturday morning our nieces were in town so they came over to meet their new cousin.

Saturday afternoon was the 3rd annual Nanofest (a home brewer festival).  The event keeps increasing in size - there were 51 different home brews this year!  We participated last year and our Grand Cru tied for 1st in the brewers tasting panel.  This year we submitted a dry hopped wheat and didn't place.  Chris, Landon and I drove to the festival early to drop off our keg and to let Landon meet some of Chris's brewing buddies.

Landon's first beer festival - are we starting him out too young?

Things were pretty much set up at the Nanofest and it was really hot out so we decided to grab some Peach Wave frozen yogurt in Westport.  We were the only ones in there so Chris set the car seat on a window seat while we got our yogurt.  Another couple came in and saw the unattended car seat and kind of freaked out for a second.  Chris explained he belonged to us and that we were the only people in the store so that's why he was unattended.  I guess we are already "those" parents!

I took Chris back to the Nanofest and Landon and I picked him up later.  I have to admit I was pretty jealous of everyone at the festival sampling beers, listening to the band and playing washers!

We got home just in time to meet up with Sarah and Mark Bartel.  They are our friends from High School who recently got married!  They live in Garden City so they made quite the trek.

Sunday was an epic fail of giving Chris a good first Father's Day.  First of all Landon woke up around 6am and needed fed, afterwards he did not want to go back to sleep and was fussy.  I forgot it was Father's Day and got upset at Chris for not taking him out of the room to soothe him fast enough.  Then I happened to be nursing Landon during breakfast and lunch time so Chris prepared both of those meals for us.  Next I gave Chris his gift which was a very nice cheese board (back story - he loves to have a nice bread, olive oil, cheese and wine for dinner sometimes).  He liked it but made a crack about it being as much as a gift for me as him - which in turn made me cry and he had to console me (darn hormones!)  He then spent the afternoon washing our vehicles.  At least I got dinner together for us.  Next year will definitely be better with a one year old and not a 17 day old!

I spent the rest of the week taking the dogs and Landon for early morning walks then venturing out for one errand a day.  I was a little nervous going to the grocery store by myself the first time.  Everything was fine until after I checked out and didn't have anywhere to put my bags.  I ended up with a bag in each hand trying to push the cart with Landon's car seat in it.  Lesson learned - ask the sacker for help out to the car. We also had successful trips to Target, the post office and bank.

Wednesday Tucker had a stomach bug so I spent the afternoon changing diapers, cleaning up Tucker's vomit and having to hose him off after he would go outside.  Chris also had to work late that night, needless to say I was over it and not in a very good mood when he got home.

It finally rained early Thursday morning and the rain drops looked so pretty on the hibiscus that I had to share.

Landon turned 3 weeks on Thursday.  This is the age when the pediatrician recommended to introduce one bottle feeding a day.  We want to establish good bottle feedings so we don't have issues when Landon has to go to daycare.  We've heard horror stories of babies not wanting to take bottles but Landon and Chris did great.  I think Chris was excited to finally get to take part in feeding his son.

more tummy time

Lately Landon's been super relaxed and giving us "hugs" when he falls asleep on our chests.

Landon does some pretty serious stretches when he awakes.  This time his pecs must've been tight!

Things we've learned this week:

1.  Landon screams at night when Mom has had curry for dinner.  I guess he doesn't share my affinity for spices.

2.  How many times can a newborn poop in 5 minutes?  So far our record is 8...and it's happened twice.

3.  With some careful maneuvering I can park the Prius in our little one car garage and be able to get the  car seat into the back.  It's the little things that seem like huge successes!
